Buying a family-friendly SUV option doesn’t have to mean sacrificing an enjoyable driving experience. Unfortunately for most people, driving a genuine sports car isn’t always the best option, especially for traveling with friends, family, children, and even pets. Luckily for us, there are a few surprisingly fast SUV options that won’t leave you feeling too disappointed in your reliable and practical daily driver.

Surprisingly, the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox is far from the most exciting-looking vehicle on the road, but it does offer a surprising amount of practicality and performance. According to Edmunds, the 2.0T engine option for the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox gives the car a surprising amount of pep, making it a decent driving car even for a heavy SUV. With the upgraded engine option, you can expect around 250 hp and a 0 – 60 mph in a reported 6.4 seconds.

The 2020 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 is known for being a sporty and off-road savvy option, but you might be surprised to know that it’s also an option for a decent and affordable performance SUV option. Select the 2.5T engine option and expect to get around 250 hp, which may not be as impressive as some other options like the Lamborghini Urus, but it does well for the price. Owners also brag about the vehicle’s off-road abilities, making it a well-rounded option that offers just a little bit of everything.

The 2020 Hyundai Kona

The 2020 Hyundai Kona might not offer an impressive-seeming acceleration number, with a 0 – 60 mph time of 7.2 seconds. The 1.6T engine option is the best variation of the car according to Edmunds, and while it only offers 175 hp it is one of the best accelerating and driving experiences for such an affordable brand new SUV. The Kona also offers a plethora of additional safety features and options that make it a great option for many drivers.

While higher-end performance SUVs are still on the more expensive end of the price scale, these affordable options offer practical options for a more reasonable but still enjoyable driving experience.
