We’ve been introduced to the new 2023 Mercedes Benz GLC. The new SUV will have a lot of upgrades over the current-year version. But, are those upgrades enough for you to wait for the new 2023 Mercedes GLC? There are still some 2022s left on dealer lots and now is the season when dealers want to get rid of their previous-year models. So should you wait?

The 2022 Mercedes GLC is still a best seller

The current generation of GLC was al-new in 2019.

Mercedes latest sales report shows that fully 20% of all new Benzes sold this year have been 2022 GLCs, so you wouldn’t be the only one looking to purchase a 2022 Mercedes GLC. The GLC is bucking the trend of an outgoing model’s sales tanking. But, the GLC is that good. It was last fully updated in 2019.

The Mercedes GLC is not only the best-selling Benz today, it’s the company’s all-time sales leader because it combines size, space, style, and the three-pointed star. It comes in several versions, from base GLC300 to the top AMG GLC63 S. Its’ a little bit smaller inside than its chief competitor the  BMW X3 and doesn’t hold as much cargo (56.5 cubic feet vs. 62.7), but it makes up for that with powerful engine options. The $43,850 2022 GLC 300 has several options that include all-wheel drive, intuitive voice controls, and several driver assistance packages.

What we know about the 2023 Mercedes GLC

The new GLC has big shoes to fill. So, Mercedes made it (slightly) bigger to accommodate more stuff inside. Though it’s all-new, the new SUV is more of an evolution on the design, not a complete re-think. Benz added a lot of the most popular options as standard, including larger displays, phone integration, wireless charging and heated seats. To that end, the new options packages are paired down.

On the engine front, the new GLC can be ordered with a 48-volt mild hybrid, which will allow you to “glide,” or boost the energy recouperation, by coasting. The new GLC also gets a boost in horsepower from the base from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. It now makes 258 horsepower.

The current generation of GLC has always been a looker. It combines the classic looks of Mercedes wagons with a distinctive SUV stature. The new GLC has a truncated rear that improves aerodynamics but gives it less of an SUV look. Inside, the new two-piece dashboard is split into two sections and has a floating screen.  If you sat in a 2022, then a 2023, it would be more evident that this is a new Mercedes SUV.

The 2023 GLC has the new Mercedes MBUX that combines two large displays and full-screen navigation. The new system allows you to say, “Hey Mercedes,” and it pops to life.  The latest generation of the Driving Assistance package contains additional and further improved functions, for example in Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Traffic Sign Assist and the new Parking package with 360-degree camera.

And, we can’t forget about the cool “transparent hood” trail cam option. When you’re off-road it helps to see the rocks and the trail limits, so the new 2023 GLC uses its cameras and screen to show you exactly what’s under you.
