The 2022 Jeep Wrangler remains one of the most popular midsize SUVs for another year. It’s off-road capable, fun to drive, and has a removable top. What’s not to like? In addition, many versions of the Wrangler are available, so there’s something for everyone. However, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler is coming soon, and some things are changing. Should you wait for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler? Or is it worth buying the 2022 model year right now?

According to Cars.com, the off-road midsize SUV is changing for the new model year. For example, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler now comes in a Limited-edition Freedom trim, which features a military-themed exterior and interior. Next, the Sahara 3.6-liter V6 with a manual transmission is discontinued and replaced with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an automatic transmission.

Additionally, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine is gone along with the Rubicon FarOut model. Finally, Jeep will no longer sell the Wrangler Unlimited High Tide trim. As for pricing, most of the trim levels received a soft boost, so it’ll cost slightly more to buy a 2023 Wrangler. However, this is entirely normal, as most models get more pricey each year.

Is the 2023 Jeep Wrangler better than the 2022 Wrangler?

Whether or not the 2022 or 2023 Jeep Wrangler is better is entirely up to the buyer. If you’re interested in a Sahara trim with a V6 engine and a manual transmission, the 2022 Wrangler is the better and only choice. Additionally, buyers who want the EcoDiesel powertrain should immediately step into a 2022 model year. This version of the SUV is being phased out, so there’s no point in waiting for a new version that isn’t coming.

It is worth noting that the longer it takes for previous model year Wranglers to sell out, the more likely a dealer is to offer big discounts. If you can find a highly discounted version of the midsize SUV further into Autumn, it might be worth taking a look. However, the modest price increase for the new model year makes the 2023 Wrangler a more viable option. Most of the remaining trim levels are identical to the previous model year. For this reason, getting the newer version at nearly the same price is favorable.

2023 Jeep Wrangler trims and pricing

The most important thing when buying any vehicle is how much it costs. Fortunately, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler isn’t much more expensive than the 2022 model year variant. However, the prices are a little bit higher, and there are fewer trim levels from which to choose. In addition, a plug-in hybrid model called the 4xe isn’t listed as a part of the standard Wrangler lineup. Interested buyers can get the 4xe model with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder paired with two electric motors and a 17-kilowatt battery pack, which produces 375 horsepower combined. It starts at $55,590 for the Willys base model.

Comparatively, the standard Wrangler is $32,540 in its cheapest form, the Sport trim. However, most buyers want a four-door Wrangler Unlimited, which starts at $37,215 for the basic Sport trim. The most expensive member of the lineup is the Wrangler Rubicon 392 at $82,190. It isn’t just well-equipped; it comes with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 making 470 horsepower.

Is it worth waiting for a 2023 Jeep Wrangler?

In conclusion, it’s worth waiting for a 2023 Jeep Wrangler over the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. If your local dealer doesn’t already have them in stock, they should soon. Cars.com says the new model year version is already available in most areas. While no significant changes took place, the latest version isn’t much more expensive than the previous version, so why not get the newest model? Furthermore, the only reasons to stick with the 2022 Wrangler are if you want the Sahara with a V6 and a manual transmission or the outgoing EcoDiesel powertrain.
