I’m finding more and more stories about auto shops holding SUVs captive for months to even years. This time a Brooklyn man’s Ford Flex was kept for two years as it gathered over $2,000 in parking fines. He’s fighting to get it back.

Auto shop refuses to return SUV with $2,000 in parking fines

A simple repair has turned into a full-blown nightmare for Louis Denory of Brooklyn, New York. The struggle continues as he still doesn’t have his Ford Flex back and faces increasing parking fines.

According to Yahoo, Denory was involved in an accident back in 2023. He had his SUV towed to a local repair shop known as A9’s Automotive. A few months later the name was changed to State to State Automotive, but the staff remained the same.

He tried getting his SUV back for months and kept getting excuses. For example, they would claim a part they needed was delayed or reference a death in the family. But then they didn’t even know where the Ford SUV was.

But the city of Brooklyn knew exactly where it was as Denory received $2,000 in parking fines. Turns out, his SUV was illegally parked down the street for months.

When Denory went to retrieve it, it wouldn’t start, its tires were flat, and a truck was blocking the parking lot’s exit. An unidentified employee demanded that he pay storage fees, but Denory refused.

He is fighting to get his SUV back and State to State Automotive has been ruled as responsible for paying the fines by a judge. However, they haven’t paid a single dime yet.
