Intersections are easily some of the most dangerous stretches of pavement on any daily commute. It is the one place where you are entirely relying on the competence and attention of other drivers to keep you safe. Unfortunately, a newly surfaced dashcam video out of Brampton, Ontario, shows exactly what can go wrong.
The horrifying collision took place during the early morning commute right in the heart of Brampton. With the dashcam timestamped just after 7:40 a.m., the roads were packed with commuters rushing to work and children heading to school. The dashcam vehicle is safely stopped at a red light, waiting for cross-traffic to clear. Sitting directly in front of the camera is a white Hyundai Elantra sporting an Ontario license plate.

As the lights turn green, the cars accelerate across the intersection. At that exact moment, a large yellow Parkview Transit school bus joins them in legally crossing the intersection. A white sedan coming from the left then violently T-bones the side of the heavy bus, causing the massive vehicle to jolt and brake abruptly.
It is terrifying to see a driver make such a blatantly dangerous move, especially when putting children at risk. Fortunately, school buses are built like absolute tanks. They are engineered with reinforced steel side panels and sit much higher off the ground than standard vehicles.
This structural design ensures that in a T-bone collision, the passenger car takes the brunt of the kinetic energy below the bus’s passenger floorboard, keeping the kids inside safe. While the bus in the video absorbed the impact well, the front end of the offending sedan was undoubtedly crushed.

The Undeniable Value of Dashcams
If there is one major takeaway from this stressful footage, it’s that having a dashcam is no longer just a fun gadget – it’s a massive legal and financial safeguard.
By the Numbers: Why Dash Cams Are Essential in 2026
If you are still on the fence about installing a camera in your daily driver, the latest industry data proves exactly why they are the ultimate insurance safeguard:
- Killing the “He-Said, She-Said” Debate: According to reports from AAA and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, drivers equipped with dash cams are approximately 40% more likely to have insurance claims settled in their favor. Furthermore, having clear video evidence slashes disputed claims by over 50%.
- Faster Payouts: Insurance claims supported by dash cam footage settle roughly 35% faster than those relying solely on verbal accounts and police reports. In the commercial sector, Samsara fleet data reports that 54% of agencies save a week or more of administrative headaches per incident just by handing over the tape.
- Defeating Fraud: Staged accidents (like the “swoop and squat”) are unfortunately on the rise, costing the average household up to $700 annually in increased premiums. However, operations utilizing dash cams saw fraudulent incidents become 60% less likely to happen and 86% less expensive to resolve when they did occur.
- Mainstream Adoption: A recent AutoInsurance.com survey reveals that 30% of all U.S. drivers are currently using dash cams. Skeptics often wonder if they’ll ever actually need one, but the data speaks for itself: 40% of dash cam owners have captured a crash or traffic incident on video, and half of those drivers ended up submitting that exact footage for an insurance claim.
