Mercedes-Benz has big plans. Starting in 2025, all of its newly launched vehicles will be fully electric. And a few years later, the same will be true for all its vehicles. To celebrate its new emphasis on EVs in its high-performance Mercedes-AMG models, the brand has a new ambassador: rapper will.i.am.

Mercedes-Benz has electrifying plans

This past July, Mercedes-Benz announced it would begin transitioning to all-electric vehicles. As early as 2022, the company plans to have battery electric vehicles (BEVs) available in all market segments.

Then, by 2025, the company plans to offer fully electric technology in all models released for the first time. Three all-electric vehicles are planned for release that year. What’s more, by 2025, customers will be able to choose an all-electric alternative for every Mercedes-Benz model.

But the real fun will begin at the end of the decade. By then, Mercedes-Benz plans to go fully electric in all vehicles, where market conditions allow. This will put the German automaker fully in competition with better-known EV manufacturers, such as Tesla.

“This step marks a profound reallocation of capital,” Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, said of the future of Mercedes-Benz EVs.

“By managing this faster transformation while safeguarding our profitability targets, we will ensure the enduring success of Mercedes-Benz. Thanks to our highly qualified and motivated workforce, I am convinced that we will be successful in this exciting new era.”

That’s not all the exciting news coming out of Mercedes these days. AMG also has a new celebrity spokesperson helping to get the message out about the new EV emphasis: will.i.am.

Mercedes-AMG explained in a press release what attracted the company to the Grammy-winning artist a spokesperson for its products:

“You can definitely say that he’s the definition of a multi-talent. Fueling his work is a mix of creativity, vision and curiosity for technology.”

Creativity and an emphasis on technology also define the car manufacturer’s approach to its new EV emphasis. In fact, Mercedes recently released a flashy video in which the rapper touts the virtues of one of its EVs, in particular: the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance.

For the foreseeable future, will.i.am will be Mercedes-AMG’s brand ambassador for all EVs, which the company calls its “Future of Driving Performance” vehicles. Check out the video below to see will.i.am put his unique style to work as he raps about what makes the car so impressive.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E offers standout performance

Where do we begin with the selling points that the 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance has going for it? According to the duPont Registry, the car packs a 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo engine and an electric motor making an impressive 831 hp and 1,033 lb-ft of torque.

With those numbers, you won’t be surprised to learn that the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is the most powerful production car from Affalterbach.

And if that weren’t enough to whet your appetite, check out this stat: The car can zoom from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph.

Unfortunately, if you’re stateside, you might have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on one of these cars. The model that Mercedes recently introduced is only for the European market. A version adapted for America is expected to be unveiled at some point.
