Despite being ranked in second place, the Ford F-150 still feels like a winner. While the Ram 1500 outranks it, it isn’t exactly beating it. The 2022 Ford F-150 is still the best-selling truck, even if critics like the 2022 Ram 1500 more.

That depends on who you ask. According to U.S.News, the Ford F-150 is the second best option to buy, while the 2022 Ram 1500 is hanging out in the top spot. But the F-150 still defeats the Ram 1500 with the most sales.

During the first half of 2022, the Ford F-150 moved 299,345 units. The Ram truck sold about 244,984 units. But during the first half of 2021, about 362,031 F-150 models were sold, and Ram sold 313,069 units.

So Ford experienced a 17.3 decrease in sales, and Ram sales dropped by 21.7 percent. Ford may need to worry about supply chain constraints and rising inflation instead of defeating rivals.

Why does the Ram 1500 outrank the F-150?

The 2022 Ram 1500 has a better overall score than the 2022 Ford F-150. The Ram has a score of 9.1 out of 10, and the F-150 got an 8.8. The GMC Sierra 1500 is in third place with an 8.8.

U.S.News uses reviews by respected automotive critics that are published online, in magazines, and in papers to rank each vehicle with an average score.

Ratings about the vehicle’s performance, fuel economy, towing strength, comfort, tech, and safety impact its points and score.

The Ram 1500 is ranked highly because it’s powerful, capable, and comfortable, with no notable weaknesses. It has an outstanding ride quality, a luxurious cabin, roomy seats, and an intuitive infotainment system. The only drawback is that there’s a short list of standard features.

The Ford F-150 ranks highly because it has a spacious interior, an impressive lineup of powertrains, and excellent towing and hauling capabilities. If fact, it has the best-in-class towing rating with the ability to pull up to 14,000 lbs.

U.S.News shared that the F-150 also has a spacious, well-dressed cabin and intuitive tech. Its drawbacks include discontinuing the diesel option, having a lower reliability ranking than rivals, and not being as posh as the Ram 1500.

What’s new for the 2023 F-150?

The year is coming to a close for the 2022 Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. Perhaps the 2023 Ford F-150 has new tricks up its sleeves to improve sales and impress critics to take the top spot away from Ram.

So far, the 2023 F-150 is expected to primarily be a carryover model. But we do get to see the Ford F-150 Raptor R make its debut with a $109,145 price tag. It cranks out 700 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque.

Also, the affordable Rattler package is now available. It’s an entry-level off-roading trim based on the standard XL model. It has 18-inch wheels, a dual suspension, hill descent control, and a locking rear differential.

It looks like the Ford F-150 isn’t gaining any improvements in its ride quality, which could make it challenging to catch up with the Ram 1500.
