The line between self-defense and aggravated assault can seem blurry. But a Seattle man was charged with murder after hitting a man with his truck. He hit the man after he attacked his ride with a machete and left him bleeding out in the street.

Seattle man hit machete-wielding attacker with truck

35-year-old Patrick Fashaun Williams was charged with one felony count of hit-and-run after killing 28-year-old Amari Wheaton.

Things escalated as the men had an argument in the parking lot by a hotel at North 137th street and Aurora Avenue.

According to Komo News, police officers responded to the scene to pick up the pieces after witnesses reported that a man was lying in the road. They thought he was run over by a car and heard tires screeching before seeing Wheaton in the street.

Police officers got footage from the hotel’s security cameras to figure out what happened. Wheaton was seen exiting his BMW in the parking lot and approaching a Chevrolet Silverado with a machete.

Wheaton started hitting Williams’s Chevy Silverado with a machete and then backed into Wheaton’s BMW while trying to get away.

Then Williams accelerated forward, running Wheaton over, and fled the scene. Paramedics took Wheaton to a local hospital where he died due to his injuries.

Officers had the Silverado’s license plate and learned that the truck was registered to Williams. He was found a few hours later and arrested after a brief standoff. Blood and hair were found under the truck.

Friends and family members of Williams and Wheaton shared that they had been arguing over the purchase of a French bulldog. Now the puppy needs a new owner.
