It looks like the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler off-road model is gone as soon as it arrived. Unfortunately, it seems like an affordable alternative to the off-road, high-performance Raptor was exactly what customers wanted. As we’re just entering the 2023 model year, it’s surprising that Ford recently announced the F-150 Rattler is already sold out for the year.

According to CarBuzz, Ford Truck Communications Manager Dawn McKenzie announced the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler is officially sold out for the year. As a result, it no longer appears in the automaker’s website’s configurator. CB says the package sold out for the 2024 model year as well before the F-150 switched from its 2022 to 2023 iteration. It’s no secret that F-150 owners love to drive off-road.

The Raptor has been a staple in the lineup for a long time and continues to be to this day. However, the desirable Raptor packs a punch with a powerful engine and a few other over-the-top features that make it well over budget for the average person.

That’s why we think the Rattler package has seen so much success. It provides some of the same essentials for driving away from the paved road without the enormous price tag. It sounds like a certain compact truck in the Ford lineup that’s also sold out. The Maverick also soared to instant success with its surprisingly affordable price.

What is the F-150 Rattler package?

Ford introduced the Rattler package to the Ford F-150 lineup last year. It’s a low-cost package for $1,495, meaning bottom trims could have it and still cost as little as $42,690. Thanks to the low price and high value, it sold out immediately. The package adds 18-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, a dual-exhaust system, a rattlesnake graphic, an off-road-tuned suspension, and skid plates. While it’s undoubtedly no Raptor, the Rattler package enhances the F-150 tremendously for off-roading. Additionally, the low price feels more than worth it, especially with the cost of tires and other modifications nowadays.

Is there an affordable 2023 Ford F-150 off-road alternative?

Although the Rattler package is sold out, customers can order the 2023 Ford F-150 with the FX4 Off-Road package. It costs $1,095 and adds an electronic locking rear axle, decals, skid plates, and similar suspension upgrades to the sold-out package. There are also a few more obvious options, but each is more costly than the last.

For more off-road performance, there’s the Tremor package, which is $60,970. According to Edmunds, it adds standard four-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels, 33-inch all-terrain tires, selectable terrain driving modes, a uniquely-tuned off-road suspension, and a locking rear differential.

Finally, the Raptor and Raptor R models are the cream of the crop but are also expensive. The off-road Raptor uses a high-output turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine making 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. It also includes a bigger 36-gallon fuel tank, 17-inch alloy wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires, Raptor-specific off-road suspension with adaptive Fox shock absorbers, Raptor-specific fender flares/grille, and six upfitter switches.

Finally, the Raptor R is well into the six-figure range, starting at $109,145. Most importantly, it swaps the standard Raptor engine for a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that makes 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, it has 37-inch tires that are optional for the regular Raptor.

2023 Ford F-150 Rattler is sold out

In conclusion, say goodbye to the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler for the next year. Orders into 2024 are unavailbale for the affordable off-roader. Moreover, offering such excellent value at a low price usually ends with customers buying out the inventory lately, especially since production remains low. However, the FX4 Off-Road package, Tremor edition, and Raptor/Raptor R are still purchasable. Those needing an F-150 with off-road capability can buy one of those alternatives instead.
