The 2021 BMW 2 Series comes as a two-door and a four-door Gran Coupe, which means that it has four doors and a hatchback. No matter which body style you choose, you can rest assured that it’s safe as can be. According to U.S. News, every 2 Series comes with a lane departure warning and automatic braking with pedestrian detection. Adaptive headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and a head-up display are available. The 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was also awarded the coveted Top Safety Pick Award for 2021 from the IIHS.

It shouldn’t be any surprise that a Volvo sedan made this list as the Swedish brand has always been synonymous with the word “safety.” Not only did the family-friendly S60 sedan receive a Top Safety Pick + award from the IIHS, but it also passed every crash test performed by the NHTSA with flying colors.

In addition to having a safe chassis, the S60 is also equipped with bevy safety features that most notably include front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Speaking of emergency braking, the S60 also has a collision mitigation braking system that can slow the car down to reduce the severity of head-on collisions.

Prospective sedan buyers will likely pick the 2022 Subaru Impreza for its all-wheel-drive layout and fuel-efficient engine, but they’re also getting more than they bargained for. The Impreza is also very safe as those outfitted with the CVT come with the brand’s EyeSight suite of driver-assist features. That list of features includes lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. And although the 2022 Impreza hasn’t been rated by the IIHS and NHTSA yet, the 2021 Subaru Impreza earned top honors from both of them.

Hondas have always been known for their reliability, fuel efficiency, and safety and the 2021 Accord is no exception. It received a safety rating of 9.9 out of 10 from U.S. News in addition to receiving flawless marks from the IIHS and NHTSA. In fact, it even took home a Top Safety Pick + award.

Part of the reason the Accord received such high praise is that every trim level is equipped with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist features. The list of these standard features includes a driver attention monitor, lane-keeping assist, a road departure mitigation system, and automatic emergency braking. The higher-trimmed Accords also come with more safety features like a head-up display, parking sensors, and a rear-cross traffic alert.
