RV Recall Alert: NHTSA Says Some Motorhomes and Travel Trailers Need Repairs

There are a lot of people that enjoy the outdoors. During the global COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, many more people have taken to outdoor activities versus joining the masses in airports, bus depots, or train stations. So, many pop-up campers, travel trailers, fifth-wheel, and motorhome have been purchased or cleaned off to get on the road. Sadly, some of the RVs are the subject of a recall by the NHTSA. Yup, there are a few safety concerns.

Recall: Braxton Creek RV – Tire pressure label

Braxton Creek RV is recalling 2020 Bushwhacker and Bushwhacker Plus travel trailers. The tire pressure indicated on the tire data sticker is incorrect. The tire’s maximum PSI is 50. However, the tire label was printed, stating that the tires should have 65 PSI. 

A total of 702 units are affected. The manufacturer will reach out to the RV owners. New tire labels will be provided with the correct PSI data. Of course, this is free of charge. Owners with questions can contact Braxton Customer Service. The number is 1-260-768-7932. 

Recall: Forest River – Warmup protection

Forest River, Inc is recalling a few 2020-2021 Dynamax Isata RVs. The vehicles may have insufficient warmup protection. This can cause engine damage, oil leakage, and possibly a fire.

A total of 79 units are affected by the recall. The manufacturer will notify owners. Fiat Chrysler Automobile, FCA dealers will recalibrate the engine software to update the warmup protection, free of charge. Owners of the RVs can also reach out to FCA Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403. The recall becomes active on November 6, 2020. FCA has a reference recall number of W57. Forest River has a reference recall number of 51-1234.

Recall: Jayco – Tire and certification labels

The Jayco, Inc. 2021 Jay Feather X213 “J3” is being recalled. It is a Baja type of RV trailer. Incorrect tire and certification labels can lead to overloading situations. This increases crash risk. 

Jayco has already mailed the corrected labels to the owners of the three units affected. Owners can also have the repair performed free of charge at a dealership or call Customer Service at 1-617-776-0344. The reference number for the RV recall is 9901523. This recall has been active since Oct. 6, 2020.  

Recall: Newmar Corporation – Front leveling jacks

Newmar Corporation makes many RV models. Certain 2021 model year Essex, Dutch Star, Mountain Aire, and London Aire motorhomes are being recalled. They may have leveling jacks that are mounted incorrectly. This can cause the jacks to fail and possibly cause injury. 

The manufacturer will notify owners of the 48 affected units. Dealers will do the repair free of charge. Owners can also contact Newmar Customer Service at 1-800-731-8300. This recall won’t begin until November 28, 2020. 

Recreational vehicles are supposed to be for recreation. But, nothing can put a damper on recreational activities like an RV recall. If this recall affects you, please take action as necessary to ensure your safety and the safety of those who enjoy the RV with you. An NHTSA recall is a nuisance. But, once completed, everybody involved can have peace of mind and enjoy that outdoor adventure.
