Rolls-Royce is one of the most famous ultra-luxury automakers worldwide. And the British car company is going electric like many other automakers. Rolls-Royce, known for making some extraordinarily luxurious and powerful cars, finally unveiled its first modern EV: the Spectre. Here’s a look at the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre and how luxurious it really is.

A brief history of Rolls-Royce

As Car and Driver wrote, Rolls-Royce has been around for over 100 years, though its history is relatively complex. For example, even in 1900, one of Rolls-Royce’s co-founders talked about how electric cars would be the future. Of course, Rolls-Royce, like most early automakers, settled on gas-powered cars for the last century.

Throughout those years, Rolls-Royce focused on luxury cars and airplane engines. Some of the British automaker’s most popular cars, such as the Silver Wraith, were even featured in the James Bond franchise, and possibly where many people saw their first Rolls-Royce. The modern Rolls-Royce has since become a staple among the rich and famous, as it’s common to see a celebrity with a Rolls-Royce.

While Rolls-Royce’s lineup has always been luxurious and powerful, they’ve also been powered by fossil fuels. But now, with the introduction of the Spectre, Rolls-Royce is hoping to live up to what its co-founder talked about all those years ago.

A look at the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre and all of its ultra-luxury features

The Spectre is Rolls-Royce’s first production EV and slated to be available in late 2023. Pricing details aren’t available yet, but it should cost around $400,000. In terms of specs, the British automaker isn’t looking to break horsepower records, but the Spectre will have more than enough power. Its dual electric motors get 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. This will allow it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It should also have about 260 miles of range.

Those specs aren’t abnormal for a luxury EV. What makes the Spectre a Rolls-Royce is how luxurious it is. For example, instead of a frunk, Rolls-Royce uses that space for hardware that ultimately helps manage the ultra-luxury EV’s complicated suspension system. According to Car and Driver, the Spectre’s complex suspension system can “rapidly anticipate and execute needed adjustments of shock and anti-roll-bar settings.” That should give the Spectre a very comfortable ride.

Rolls-Royce also put a lot of effort into making the cabin as quiet as possible. Rolls-Royce even put in a lot of effort to make the car doors as luxurious as possible. They provide a lot of room which makes it easy to enter and exit the car, and folks can open or close the door with the push of a button. Thanks to all of these features and more, Rolls-Royce wrote that the Spectre is “the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupe.”

The 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre will be the first of many Rolls-Royce EVs

Many automakers are looking to electrify their lineups, but Rolls-Royce is very ambitious about its plans. That’s because the British automaker aims to go fully electric by 2030. Most automakers aren’t seeking to go fully electric so soon.

In fact, BMW Group, the corporation that owns Rolls-Royce and a bunch of other automakers, pledged that 50% of its production cars will be electric by 2030. That said, Rolls-Royce has only unveiled the Spectre so far, and it’s not clear which EV it’ll make next.
