Rivian is an American electric vehicle startup that has only existed since 2009. So how did a company that’s less than two decades old manage to secure an investment from Amazon and Ford Motor Company? Its current valuation after the company’s IPO is perhaps even more impressive. According to CNBC, the company is currently valued at $86 billion.

Rivian’s IPO is historic because the company has a higher valuation than many other automakers. Its IPO is already higher than Ford’s despite it being a newer company. Such a high valuation, as well as investments from Ford and Amazon, mean the company can operate at a loss without worrying about bankruptcy for quite some time.

Rivan has the financial support to churn out plenty of electric vehicles and that’s exactly what the company plans to do. It will produce hundreds of thousands of EVs in the years to come. The Rivian R1T may be new to the automotive market, but after less than a few hundred models produced, it seems the electric truck is here to stay.
