According to the report from the British outlet, Stroll recently sat down with Christian Horner to discuss handing him the reins. However, the prospect of a Red Bull reunion was supposedly dead on arrival.
The BBC’s sources indicate that Newey firmly rejected the idea of working under his former boss again. Given the apparently explosive behind-the-scenes politics that preceded the design guru’s exit from Milton Keynes, throwing down a veto against Horner isn’t exactly surprising. Stroll paid an astronomical premium to acquire one of the greatest minds in motorsport engineering, which means keeping Newey happy is the ultimate priority.

The Jonathan Wheatley Rumors

The veteran sporting director spent two decades collaborating with Newey at Red Bull, making him a vastly more palatable option to step into the leadership void.

Not only would this allow the experienced paddock stalwart to return to the United Kingdom from his Audi HQ in Switzerland, but the rumored friction between him and his colleague and now-replacement Mattia Binotto would come to an end.

Getting Newey back to the design office should be number one on Aston Martin’s to-do list right now. He only took the interim leadership gig late last year after former executive Andy Cowell stepped aside to wrangle the catastrophic Honda powertrain situation.
