Toyota dominated the list when iSeeCars listed some SUVs with the greatest lifespan potential. Out of the top 20 cars, trucks, and SUVs, Toyota had 10 options on the list. Many of those options were three-row vehicles, such as the reliable Toyota Sequoia SUV. Sport utility vehicles and trucks such as this are made to be durable and long-lasting vehicles, but that doesn’t make this achievement any less impressive.
After analyzing more than two million vehicles produced and sold for at least half the last 20 years, the Toyota Sequoia had the most examples on the road. One percent of cars in the study had between 230,000 and 297,000 miles on the odometer, led by the Sequoia. Around 11.2% of all Toyota Sequoia SUVs on the road have reached 200,000 miles or more. The three-row SUV segment averages 0.9% of those going 200,000 miles.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has an average cost of $64,466, while the average cost of a three-year-old version is $64,510. The average price of a three-year-old large SUV is $45,898, while a Sequoia is typically $18,612 above that. During this study, iSeeCars found that the red and silver Sequoia SUVs held value better than the blue and white versions.
“What we see is a list of highly-durable vehicles, capable of more than a quarter-million miles of use if properly maintained,” iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said. This study is not looking at vehicles that have hit this mileage and scrapped after, but cars that run and drive on roads daily.
Since the reliable Toyota Sequoia SUV has been on the market for many years, plenty of resources exist to keep it running at its best. Check the owner’s manual for specific interval details, but regular oil changes, coolant flushes, and keeping up with brakes/tires are just a few essential maintenance items.
Toyota and Lexus were Kelley Blue Book’s best resale value brands
Kelley Blue Book rounds up all vehicles offering the best resale value each year, and the 2023 Toyota Tundra offered the best resale value. The Tundra held onto 73.3% of its original value over five years. After five years, the average new vehicle retains about 45% of the original MSRP, but the cars on Kelley Blue Book’s list blow by that easily. Along with the Tundra mentioned above, Kelley Blue Book found the 2023 Lexus LX, and the 2023 Lexus LS offered good value for customers.
When it comes to selecting a vehicle that will run past 200,000 miles without too much fuss, Toyota has more options than most automakers. Even though there are many brands to choose from, reliability is an important factor to consider.
