Chaska, Minnesota. It’s a little town with a population just shy of 30,000. As such, you’d expect the sleepy Minneapolis suburb to be less than crazy. However, even Chaska isn’t immune from straight-up silliness, as evidenced by a recent altercation between a drunk, reckless driver and the town’s police department.

A reckless driver led police on a bit of a silly chase after running into two cop cars and visiting a Wendy’s drive-through

The vast majority of driving under the influence (DUI) crimes happen late at night or early in the morning. Consequently, police officers cruise public streets with a few methods for identifying drunk drivers. For instance, cops may look for erratic driving behaviors, sluggish reactions, or failure to use headlights and taillights in the dark. Sometimes, however, a reckless driver is obviously drunk.

It was 9:30 p.m. in Chaska when police responded to a reckless driver on Yellow Brick Road. “Wizard of Oz” and brainless Tin Man jokes aside, the suspect was driving on the wrong side of the road when police attempted to stop him.

He then turned into a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant drive-through. I guess bad decisions can work up quite the appetite. Police attempted to coax the driver out of the car as he started to order food from the drive-through terminal. The reckless driver then decided the best course of action was to vault a curb in his Hyundai Sonata and drive into the night. Worse yet, the police report doesn’t include what menu item he attempted to order.

During the silly, slow-speed chase, the reckless driver crashed into not one, but two police cars. In addition to the police vehicles, the driver struck several parked cars during the escape attempts. However, (and fortunately so) the suspect’s behavior did not result in any injuries.

At another point during the chase, police attempted to box the Hyundai driver in and prevent his escape. However, the inebriate put the car in reverse, slammed into a police car, and drove along a curb to slip away from the police officers. Police eventually arrested the driver, charging him with a DWI, assault, and fleeing from the police.
