The 5 biggest recalls of 2024 affected 6.8 million vehicles, is yours one of them?
When was the last time you took your car or truck to a dealership? If it’s been a few months, you might have missed an important 2024 recall. Automakers issued repairs for millions of vehicles last year. The good news? Tesla, Ford, Honda, Chrysler, and Jeep are fixing these issues for free.
Tesla issued two massive 2024 recalls
Elon Musk and the NHTSA have debated whether software updates should count as recalls. The agency insists any safety-related fix must be tracked and publicized. So when regulators found Tesla’s warning lights too small in 2024, the automaker had to issue a recall. The problem affected 2.19 million vehicles, including the Cybertruck, Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y. Tesla rolled out a software update to fix it.
A second Tesla 2024 recall addressed a much bigger risk—front trunks flying open at high speeds. The NHTSA warned, “Unknowingly driving a vehicle with an unlatched hood may result in the hood fully opening and obstructing the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a collision.” If you own a 2021-2024 Model 3, Model S, or Model X—or a 2020-2024 Model Y—you should check if your vehicle needs this repair.
Ford’s 2024 recall affected 1.89 million SUVs
Ford issued a 2024 recall for 1.89 million Explorer SUVs due to a windshield trim issue. The plastic A-pillar trim on 2011-2019 Explorers can detach at high speeds. This could damage the SUV or hit other vehicles on the road.
Ford believes only 5% of affected vehicles have faulty trim, but it’s inspecting all of them and fixing faulty ones for free. No crashes have been reported, but if you drive an Explorer, it’s worth getting checked out.
Honda recalled 1.69 million vehicles over steering issues
A massive 2024 recall forced Honda to repair steering components that wear out too fast. The issue makes steering more difficult. Yikes!
Which vehicles need the fix? Many 2022-2025 Honda Civics, including hybrids, hatchbacks, Type Rs, and sedans. Honda also recalled CR-Vs and HR-Vs from 2023-2025, plus some Acura Integras from 2023-2025. If you own one, a trip to the dealership could prevent future headaches.
Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep issued a 2024 recall for backup cameras
Backup cameras became mandatory in 2018. They help prevent accidents in parking lots and driveways. But a 2024 recall forced Stellantis to fix over a million Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles due to a glitch in the backup camera display.
Which models are affected? The 2021-2022 Chrysler Pacifica, 2021-2022 Dodge Durango, and several Jeep SUVs built between 2021 and 2023 (Compass, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer). The recall also covered 2022 Ram trucks and 2022-2023 Ram Promaster vans.
