Recall Alert: The All-New Jeep Wagoneer S Is Already Shedding Parts on the Highway

Jeep’s push into the all-electric luxury SUV segment is hitting a bit of a speed bump. According to safety recall documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Chrysler is officially recalling 11,767 Jeep Wagoneer S models from the 2024 to 2026 model years. The suspect vehicles were built between March 21, 2024, and July 24, 2025.

The issue revolves around a seemingly minor cosmetic piece that poses a major safety threat. The rear liftgate hinge covers were built with “insufficient design tolerances,” meaning they may not securely clip into their designated positions. As a result, these trim pieces can completely detach from the vehicle while it is in motion.

A Serious Road Hazard for Jeep

While losing a piece of plastic trim might not seem like a mechanical emergency for the Jeep itself, it is a massive problem for everyone else on the road. Federal regulators warn that if one of these hinge covers flies off at highway speeds, it instantly becomes a dangerous road hazard for other vehicles, significantly increasing the risk of a crash without any prior warning.

If you own one of these affected electric SUVs, your vehicle might actually give you a subtle warning before it sheds its parts. FCA notes that drivers and vehicle occupants might hear a rattling noise coming from the rear of the vehicle while driving. Additionally, owners might physically notice that one or both of the liftgate hinge covers are visibly loose or not fully seated.

The Free Dealership Fix

To resolve the issue, FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to inspect the rear liftgate hinge covers. If necessary, dealership technicians will repair or replace the faulty covers with newly designed parts that feature improved tolerances to ensure proper retention. As with all official safety recalls, this service will be performed completely free of charge.

Because the automaker is currently securing the replacement parts, the official recall remedy is not yet available at local dealerships. However, the recall campaign is estimated to officially launch in the second quarter of 2026, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed out on or around May 1, 2026.

If you have questions about your specific vehicle in the meantime, you can contact FCA US customer service directly at 1-800-853-1403 and reference the internal Chrysler recall number 26D. You can also verify your vehicle’s recall status using the NHTSA VIN lookup tool starting March 19, 2026.
