Since its introduction, the Ford Maverick has been a popular small truck. Unfortunately, it is also a pickup that has encountered multiple recall alerts. Now, the 2023 Ford Maverick is facing yet another recall. This time, it could impact your ability to tow safely.

The 2023 Ford Maverick has another recall

This is not the first recall to impact Ford’s small truck, but the 2023 Maverick has a new recall. The recall only impacts certain versions of this compact pickup, and those are models with the Class II Trailer Tow package.

We do know why this recall is out, and it might be a little embarrassing for the Blue Oval. Apparently, at the factory, a wiring circuit was not installed. That means even if you connect a trailer to the 2023 Ford Maverick, your trailer’s taillamps will not work. And that is a pretty important safety feature to have while towing something with your truck.

Of course, like all recalls, the cost of the fix is covered by the manufacturer. If your Maverick is impacted, you’ll receive a notification from Ford to bring your truck to the dealership. There, the issue will be corrected by splicing in the missing wires. That way, your small pickup functions the way it should.

Can the 2023 Ford Maverick tow?

In terms of towing, the Ford Maverick does fairly well for itself. Even with the base hybrid engine, the 2023 Maverick can tow up to 2,000 pounds. If you need a truck that can tow more, this model offers a maximum tow rating of 4,000 lbs. But you’ll need to get the larger EcoBoost engine and the optional tow package.

According to MotorTrend, Ford’s small truck is fairly efficient when towing with the hybrid engine. It returned a 30 mpg average when towing a 1,600-lb trailer. The Maverick was less impressive when towing a larger trailer with the EcoBoost engine. There, it was an 11 mpg average.

Overall though, it looks like if you adhere to this truck’s limits, it can easily tow and haul. And for a compact pickup that you can get for less than $25,000, that is pretty cool to see.

Are there other Ford Maverick recalls?

Unfortunately, the Maverick has been subject to multiple recalls. The most recent of these is one that could impact your ability to tow safely. If you have a 2023 Ford Maverick with the Class II Trailer Tow package, you should probably be on the lookout for a recall notice in the mail.

This recent recall is not the first for Ford’s small truck. The 2022 Maverick had five recalls in its first year, including for problems with the brake lights.

Despite recalls and issues with supply, Ford’s small truck remains extremely popular. The Blue Oval does have plans to ramp up production of the Maverick in order to get more folks their truck. And hopefully, that will happen soon.
