The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, one of the smallest off-roading SUVs you can buy, got a makeover for the 2020 model year. This Range Rover saw a complete redesign, outfitted with new technology and a longer wheelbase. It also boasts a mild-hybrid powertrain, perfect for the environmentally conscious. Another eco-friendly option: non-leather upholstery.

But now one kind of fabric is at the center of a recall of some 2020 Evoque models, CarComplaints reports. According to the recall notice, the seat trim in question is more flammable than others.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque’s new recall

Land Rover states the seat covers in certain 2020 Range Rover Evoque models are more flammable than other trims. The material bears the Dinamica name. This microfiber cloth covers climate specification front seats in 2020 Evoques. The recall also mentions the seat belt assemblies for the second row might be defective.

Though rare, a collision could cause the fuel system to become damaged and ignite. If the fire spread to the interior, the front seats covered in this type of Dinamica material could burn more quickly than other fabric. Thankfully, only 70 Evoque models are part of the recall, and no injuries related to the issue have been reported so far.

A lack of overall reported complaints otherwise indicates the 2020 Range Rover Evoque is a good crossover SUV. It had two other recalls last year, but those affected only 3,020 vehicles total.

What is Dinamica?

Dinamica cloth is a unique alternative to regular microfiber because it’s made of all-natural, recycled materials. According to its manufacturer, the decreased use of polyester production can reduce C02 emissions by 80 percent. Dinamica is also completely recyclable at the end of its life.

Dinamica is primarily available in shades of black, but it can also be purchased in vibrant neon colors. It’s a greener alternative to Alcantara, a synthetic suede commonly found in sports cars such as the Audi TT RS. Because Alcantara is more expensive to produce, Dinamica is also more cost-effective.

Which Range Rover Evoque interiors have the recalled Dinamica seat trim?

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is available in six trim levels, but the recalled Dinamica fabric appears in only two. The Evoque First Edition offers more technology than the two trims below it, such as ambient interior lights, a head-up display, and heated front seats. A large panoramic sunroof also comes standard on this model.

A 2.0-liter turbo-four generating 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque powers the Evoque First Edition. The engine pairs with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. All Evoque models come with off-road settings for many types of troublesome terrain.

The Range Rover Evoque First Edition also boasts more safety features than lower trim levels, including high-speed emergency braking and foglights. A new digital rearview mirror allows drivers to see out the back window regardless of cargo obstructing their vision.

The Evoque R-Dynamic HSE comes with much of the First Edition’s technology plus some sportier aesthetic touches. It has special wheels, a premium audio system, and an engine that creates more horsepower. The R-Dynamic HSE’s motor harnesses 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

It’s also important to note that, on both of these Range Rover SUVs, Dinamica is an optional fabric. Each comes standard with Windsor leather seat trim.

How Evoque owners can fix this problem

CarComplaints says the recall is scheduled for February 12. If your Evoque has the recalled Dinamica cloth, Land Rover will replace the seat covers for free. If needed, the seat belts in the second row will also be inspected and replaced. You can contact Land Rover through the automaker’s website or by calling 800-637-6837.
