Many Ford fans have been anxiously awaiting the return of the Bronco. The new 2022 Ford Bronco has arrived to compete with the popular Jeep Wrangler, among others. Many automotive experts have checked it out and found it to be a better daily commute vehicle than the Wrangler, though perhaps a worse off-roader.
However, there’s also the smaller Ford Bronco Sport to consider. How does it compare to its big brother, and in what ways is it better and worse?

The team at Car and Driver highlighted the brand-new 2022 Ford Bronco’s stylish looks, its better on-road driving dynamics compared to the Wrangler, and its customization options. Meanwhile, Edmunds and MotorTrend also praised the model’s standard tech features and interior comfort.
So, what about the faults of the revitalized Bronco? Well, the Bronco suffers from excess engine and wind noise at high speeds, a lack of hybrid and diesel powertrain options to compete in the modern SUV landscape, and a less refined variety of options than those offered by the Jeep Wrangler.

So, how does the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport compare? It received higher marks from MotorTrend but slightly lowered review scores from Car and Driver and Edmunds.
The Bronco Sport solves some of the issues faced by the Bronco because of its slighter build. It has better fuel efficiency and less road noise due to its engine option and more compact build while still offering robust performance and interior comfort. The negatives faced by the model are either shared with that of the Bronco, such as its unrefined interior of plastics, or a result of its class, such as a cramped second row of seating.
Why the Bronco Sport is preferred by some
The Ford Bronco Sport’s biggest advantages over the regular Ford Bronco are its pricing and fuel economy ratings. Additionally, while both the Bronco and Bronco Sport are brand-new models that might have reliability issues on the horizon, the initial price tag, more compact build, and smaller engine of the Bronco Sport likely mean less complicated and more affordable repair solutions.
Additionally, despite being smaller than the regular Bronco, the Bronco Sport offers enough power for day-to-day driving. You get a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with most trims. It gets 181 horsepower with some vibrations at lower RPMs. For those who prefer more power and performance, you can also upgrade to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood of the top two trim levels. It offers 245 horses and is more refined with less vibration and improved power delivery.
