Have you ever heard of the 2022 Suzuki Across? Introduced in 2020, it’s a plug-in hybrid SUV that’s more familiar than you might think. Suzuki’s offering is a rebadged Toyota RAV4, so it’s the European-only “RAV4 Lite,” if you will. For the new model year, the PHEV received a host of updates and improvements. Most importantly, the 2022 Suzuki Across plug-in hybrid is gaining more charging power.

For the first time since its initial release in 2020, the Across is upgraded for 2022. Technology and equipment are improved for the new model year. The most significant upgrade is the standard onboard 6 kW AC charger. A considerable step up from the 3 kW version, Suzuki’s PHEV charges in nearly half the time previous models did. More specifically, charging time is reduced from 5.30 hours to 2.45 hours when using a 32A rapid charger. In addition, home charging at a 16A facility is down 36 minutes to under five hours, according to CarScoops.

Moreover, the Subaru Across can now charge your phone (and other devices) faster too. Every USB port received an upgrade from type A to type C. With faster charging capabilities, owners won’t have to worry about draining the Across battery. That’s not all that’s new for the 2022 model year.

The 2022 Suzuki Across plug-in hybrid didn’t just gain more power for the new model year. In addition, this RAV4 Lite now uses LED lights in the fog lamps, headlights, rear cabin light, and cargo space light. Welcome to the modern era of vehicles, Suzuki, as drivers and passengers will have clearer visibility in all areas thanks to these lighting upgrades.

Lastly, the overhead console switches and mirror controls are now illuminated. In short, drivers can more easily locate and use these functions in the dark. While the exterior went unchanged for 2022, buyers can now choose from six colors at no extra cost.

Is the Suzuki Across PHEV right for you?

The Across is being called a RAV4 Lite because it’s a rebadged version of the same model. As a result, it uses the same plug-in hybrid system as the RAV4 Prime. Furthermore, it has a 2.5-liter engine and electric motors producing 302 horsepower. These send power to all four wheels using the E-Four AWD system. The front-mounted electric motor produces 180 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. That’s the performance drivers will get while using the Across EV mode. Lastly, the 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery provides an electric-only range of up to 46.6 miles.

In conclusion, the 2022 Suzuki Across plug-in hybrid is an excellent overall SUV. It’s not available in the U.S., but it shares so much with the RAV4 Prime you can hardly tell the difference. In 2022, the Across gains more power through better charging capability and an improved battery. Additionally, its equipment gained a significant upgrade with LED lights throughout, illuminated controls, and more.
