I have slightly good news for Ram truck owners. However, it also serves as bad news for other drivers on the road. Ram owners used to be the drunkest drivers, but they have been surpassed by another automotive brand.

Which auto brand has the drunkest drivers?

Drum roll, please! That automotive brand with the drunkest drivers on the road is BMW! Owners of these luxury cars and SUVs have surpassed Ram truck owners with the most DUI violations per 1,000 drivers.

For years, Ram 2500 owners had over twice as many DUI citations compared to the national average. But according to Suzuki Law, luxury cars are getting more popular among intoxicated people.

BMW owners face 3.09 drunk driving citations per 1,000 drivers. Then Ram truck owners landed in second place with a rate of 3.00.

Acura is another luxury brand in the top five drunkest driver auto brands with a 2.69. It’s followed by Audi with a 2.42 and then Volvo with 2.42.

The study suggests that owners of luxury vehicles represent a more problematic demographic. For example, BMW drivers are also the least considerate towards pedestrians. They are the least likely to stop. Expensive vehicle owners are more likely to be involved in collisions, speeding, and overall citations.

On the other end of the spectrum, the vehicle brands with the fewest drunk driving citations included Mercury, Land Rover, Lincoln, Pontiac, and Buick. Mercury and Pontiac haven’t made cars since 2011 and 2010.

However, the other brands with the best-behaved drivers are still luxury options. But the purpose of this study is to spread awareness. About 34 people die every day, or one person per 42 minutes, due to drunk drivers.
