The Ram 1500 PHEV Is Joining the 4xe Party

Holy moly, Stellantis just dropped a ton of teasers for us to obsess over, including what could be a Ram 1500 PHEV. To be more specific, the image could represent the Ram TRX 1500 as a plug-in hybrid.

Is the Ram 1500 PHEV up next?

The SEMA show is almost here, and manufacturers are teasing great things like the possible Ram 1500 PHEV. SEMA or the Specialty Equipment Market Association represents the automotive aftermarket industry.

So while we will get to see tons of custom builds from aftermarket companies, OEMs like Jeep and Ram will provide interesting concepts to consider. The show takes place in Las Vegas from Tuesday, November 2, to Friday, November 5. Until then, we get to speculate about a few teaser images.

The Ram 1500 TRX could be gaining plug-in hybrid power. This means a regular Ram 1500 PHEV model could be on the way as well. The teaser image shows a large silver truck kicking up dirt.

You’ll notice that the RAM badge on the grille and the front tow hooks are bright blue. They are the same shade of blue found on the Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid models. Jeep and Ram are essentially cousins, so this is a significant clue.

While the Ram 1500 hybrid probably won’t have the 4xe Jeep badge, we’re excited to see what it has to offer. The image provides clues for tons of racing and off-roading power. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is just as cable as the gas-powered Rubicon, so the hybrid Ram should bring the heat.

With the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, you get 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. But because the Ram 1500 is larger and heavier, it could have more power. But unfortunately, we don’t have much to go on. We have to wait for the SEMA show to learn more.

But what about the electric Ram 1500?

We’ve heard rumors about the Jeep Gladiator 4xe and the Ram 1500 Electric truck, but the Ram 1500 PHEV is taking us by surprise. Stellnatic has been pretty quiet about this option if it’s actually happening.

It won’t be too crazy for a hybrid truck to come out before the Ram 1500 EV. For example, we saw the Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid before the Ford F-150 Lightning. Also, the Toyota Tundra Hybrid could be the precursor to an electric Tundra.

Ram will offer an electric pickup truck by 2024, so perhaps the hybrid model will come out sooner. Also, they have been dropping hints about a midsize Ram pickup truck. It might be a little more luxurious and comfortable compared to the Gladiator.

The Ram 1500 EV will have a more futuristic look compared to the traditional-looking F-150 Lightning. It also blows the Lightning’s 300-mile range out of the water with a 500-mile range. The electric truck will be built on the new STLA Fram platform.

It’s one of four battery electric vehicle platforms that Stallnatis plans to use to underpin electric vehicles. Also, Stellantis plans to build electric vehicles for all 14 of its brands. So, stay tuned. A lot of surprises are coming down the pipeline.
