With so many luxury cars on the market, choosing the right luxury car can be a tough choice. Bentley, like other luxury automakers, offers a wide variety of luxurious cars of varying sizes and capabilities. However, just like its name implies, the 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed offers a lot of one thing, and that’s speed.

A recap of the regular Bentley Continental GT

Off the bat, the Continental GT is a pretty expensive, but worthy car, according to MotorTrend. At a starting MSRP of just over $200,000, the Continental GT isn’t a luxury car for everyone, but it is worth its price tag. Armed with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the Continental GT gets 550-hp and 568 lb-ft of torque.

That powerful engine is paired with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard. On top of that, while that V8 provides more than enough power for the Continental GT, it’s also a fairly fuel efficient engine for the environmentally conscious luxury car shopper. MotorTrend says that the Continental GT’s V8 gets about 16 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on highways.

But of course, like most other luxury cars, the main trade off is size. The Continental GT only seats four people, but it does seat them comfortably and luxuriously.

The Continental GT has an interior that only $200,000 can pay for, and it includes many amenities as standard, such as a 12.3-inch display and a “refrigerated storage compartment”.

The 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed offers even more power

While that starting price tag of $200,000 is relatively expensive, Bentley offers many options and several different trim levels for the Continental GT. The most powerful of these trims is the appropriately-named Speed trim, according to MotorTrend. The Continental Speed comes with a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine that gets 650-hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

The regular Continental has an option for a similar engine, however, like MotorTrend said, the regular Continental’s W12 engine only gets 626-hp. As such, the Continental Speed gets a roughly 24-hp increase in power. This powerful engine should allow the Continental Speed to go from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, and it should also top out at 206 MPH.

With that being said, MotorTrend wrote that when it tested the 626-hp Continental, it went from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.3 seconds. As such, MotorTrend expects that the Continental Speed should hit 60 MPH faster than Bentley said it will.

Is it worth it?

The 2022 Continental Speed’s final price tag isn’t known yet, according to MotorTrend, but it should cost, at the very least, about $260,000. That’s a steep premium on the regular Continental, but a bigger and more powerful engine isn’t all that’s coming with the Continental Speed.

MotorTrend says that Bentley also tuned up the Continental Speed’s handling so that it’ll feel more nimble compared to the regular Continental.

Bentley did that by making several upgrades to the Continental Speed, including giving its rear axle an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. MotorTrend says that this type of system is a first for Bentley.

When it’s working with the other smaller improvements and upgrades that Bentley’s made to the Continental Speed, it should improve the car’s handling “in any weather condition,” according to MotorTrend.

Furthermore, like any luxury car, Bentley gave the Continental Speed some aesthetic changes. The grille, the fender vents, and the side skirts all get unique changes that’ll make the Continental Speed visually different from the regular Continental.

Similar changes are also available on the inside of the car. If anyone thinks these upgrades sound great, then they’ll have to wait until fall 2021 before Bentley starts delivering them.
