It’s hard to go wrong with the Ram 1500. It’s an excellent truck to buy. In fact, this full-size truck is one of the highest-rated trucks available. However, no vehicle is perfect. Even if the 2022 Ram 1500 is beloved by drivers and critics, it still has a few potential issues to consider.

We would like to thank the team at Pickup Truck Talk for putting this list of common truck complaints together. It provides information about the Ram 1500 and the most significant headaches it could cause.

One of the most common complaints involves the exhaust manifolds warping due to heat. Once it warps, the bolts can break. This issue has been plaguing owners for years, and to make matters worse, it’s reoccurring.

Reportedly, a Ram mechanic shared that they’ve repaired this problem hundreds of times. There is a tool that was specifically made to address this issue. But luckily, the exhaust manifold is covered under the Powertrain Limited Warranty.

Does the Ram 1500 have transmission issues?

Maybe, there are reports of transmission problems for older trucks. The 2022 Ram 1500 doesn’t have any complaints about the transmission yet, but the 2019 model does. Owners shared that their trucks wouldn’t shift out of park or out of first gear.

Other Ram owners reported that their trucks lost power while driving. Some people experienced the truck stalling while driving in traffic. Suddenly, it would start slowing down, and the instrument panel would go dark. All they could do was coast to stop.

Some drivers reported that their trucks worked fine at lower speeds. But then it would stall at red lights, and the parking brake would automatically engage. Power loss has been reported for the 2019, 2020, and 2021 models.

Based on the complaints listed, people were able to restart their trucks and move out of the way before being hit. At the time, technicians were unaware of what caused the problem, but it seems to have been corrected.

Another related issue involves the power steering. There are multiple reports of it getting stuck in the 11 o’clock position or not working at all. But this issue seems only to be related to the 2019 model and older options.

Recently, Stallantis issued a recall for the 2019 Ram 1500 due to a power steering fault. A defective battery ground circuit fastener was causing power steering loss. So, this problem seems to have been corrected.

How reliable is the Ram 1500?

The 2022 Ram 1500 has an above-average reliability rating from Repair Pal. It currently ranks in fourth place on the list of most reliable trucks, which includes 17 options. So, that’s pretty good. The 1500 should make it to 300,000 miles with proper care and maintenance.

Some drivers have surpassed 350,000 miles with their trucks. It should provide about 20 years of service on the road if you drive about 15,000 miles per year. Also, it has an annual average repair cost of $692.

Fullsize trucks typically cost about $963 to repair every year, so it could provide savings compared to other options.

The Ram 1500 problems don’t seem too severe and easy to repair. Plus, there have been fewer reports of trouble since the tuck was redesigned in 2019.
