Mississippi Police bust a massive chop shop

Police officers in Rankin County received a tip that led to the discovery of a large residential chop shop. It all started when someone contacted the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department about a stolen vehicle. According to reports, it was located near Shell Oil Road in Brandon.

They approached a home in an unsuspecting neighborhood. A man identified as 35-year-old Steve Nieburg was at home. He had marijuana, which opened the door for officers to find much more incriminating evidence.

For example, there was a Ford truck that was reported stolen in August, a Toyota truck that was stolen in July, a car that was stolen in 2022, a disassembled pickup truck, and a stolen car hauler trailer.

Trucks like the Ford F-150 are often targets as options to part out. Items like the headlights, bumpers, wheels, and more fetch high prices from repair shops due to a supply shortage.

The vehicle identification numbers on the vehicles were altered. According to WAPT, police officers also found several stolen guns.

The weapons are believed to be from a house robbery in Pearl. Plus, they found several chainsaws that were taken from a power line company in Alabama.

Nieburd faces several charges related to violation of the MS Chop Shop, Stolen, Altered Property Act, and receiving/possession of stolen property.

A helpful tip from one random caller may have helped put an end to a much larger operation, including stolen vehicles, guns, and drugs.
