Michigan police and SUV get attacked by knife-wielding man
Police officers in Macomb County, Michigan, have no idea why a man used his car as a weapon to attack them. At first, the 36-year-old suspect rammed an empty police SUV in what seemed like a practice run.
Then he waited for officers to enter another SUV before accelerating into it. After the collision, the man jumped out of his car with a 6-inch knife and ran in the officer’s direction.
They demanded that he stop and drop his weapon, but he refused. This prompted officers to fire multiple gunshots as they feared for their safety. He was shot six times.
Bullets struck his lower back, left thigh, upper right back, upper right shoulder, lower right ankle, and upper right groin. According to FREEP, he was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency services and is in stable condition.
There is an ongoing investigation into the incident, but the motive remains unclear. There wasn’t a manifesto. Plus, his system was free of drugs or alcohol. Some of the suspect’s family members did share that he has some mental health issues, but they didn’t elaborate.
Roseville police and the sheriff’s officer haven’t had any prior contact with him. Also, he hasn’t seemed to express any negative feelings towards police officers.
But Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham shared that this is just part of the danger of this profession. He was clearly armed as a threat, and the officers involved utilized their training to de-escalate the situation.
