What’s more American than a hot dog on the Fourth of July?! Police officers had plenty of frozen hot dogs to hand out after a semi-truck flipped over. Families got to take packages from the pavement to enjoy. Buns not included.

Colorado Police officers hand out frozen hot dogs after semi-truck crash

While free hot dogs are always exciting, not every aspect of this story is good. A semi-truck flipped over in Colorado. The incident occurred near Highway 69, south of Westcliffe, near mile marker 52.

Luckily, the trucker wasn’t injured. However, the trailer was crushed, and the cab was turned into a mangled piece of metal. According to KKTV, the trailer was filled with frozen hot dogs and other grocery items that were scattered across the highway.

Typically, when loads are destroyed, they are returned to the shipper for insurance claims. However, this time the company told police officers that their products didn’t need to be returned.

So, emergency crews decided to share the food with members of the community. What a welcome surprise if you’ve been aware of increasing grocery prices.

The wieners were taken to the Custer School and the Alta store to remain frozen overnight. Then they were handed out the next morning. People lined up to collect their allotment of two grocery bags of free food.

I’m assuming that only products with unopened packaging were handed out. Otherwise, the hot dogs could be littered with asphalt and the flavor of diesel. Not to mention all of the other contaminants that coat public roads.

Also, the cause of the semi-truck accident wasn’t shared. But why worry about that when you have free wieners?
