Police Free Bear Who ‘Wasn’t Thrilled’ To Be Trapped Inside Colorado Resident’s Car
Police officers were forced to undo, as they called it, a ‘bear-icade’ situation in the northern Colorado foothills last week. The situation was caused by a big ole bruin that managed to break into a resident’s car and got stuck.
Officers from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to the scene after receiving a call from a home reporting a “vehicle trespass.” That trespasser, unfortunately for the deputies, turned out to be a big bear.
“The caller reported that a bear had broken into his car… and the furry bandit was still trapped in there,” the LCSO wrote in a Facebook post. “The first arriving deputy confirmed the claws for concern: a bear was, indeed, inside the vehicle (and he wasn’t thrilled about the situation either).
“Backup arrived and the team took a tactical paws to make sure they were prebeared for any situation. In lieu of bear spray, they kept pepperballs at the ready in case things got hairy. After creating distance with a sophisticated handle-release mechanism, they opened the door and freed Yogi.
“The owners were very appreciative, despite the damage inflicted by their clawstrophobic visitor.”
Entertaining police bodycam video reveals how police officers freed the stuck bear
In police bodycam video taken from the scene of the “crime,” an officer can be heard telling someone, “Yogi’s in there, unhappy.” Then, as he starts to to open one of the car doors, he tells the bear, “Yogi, calm down.”
After freeing the stuck bear, the video then pans to inside the car. The resulting damage is definitely not going to buff right out. As for why the bear climbed into the car, police were unsure since there was no food inside the vehicle. Maybe it just thought it looked like a really comfortable place to hibernate?
