Congratulations to the Las Vegas Police Department for taking a bold step. The department purchased a fleet of 10 Tesla Cybertruck models to improve their safety. The electric trucks have been touted as bulletproof and apocalypse-ready.

Las Vegas police department buys Tesla Cybertruck fleet

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department is about to be riding in unique trucks. It purchases a fleet of 10 Tesla Cybertruck models, one of which will be a SWAT vehicle.

But how does a police department afford 10 trucks for around $100,000 a pop? According to WMBF News, the funds for the truck fleet came from a generous donor. They didn’t come from the department’s budget.

The police officers now get to brag about having the largest fleet of Tesla police trucks in the country. Sheriff Kevin McMahill brags about having the largest Tesla police fleet in the county.

He’s excited about the safety the trucks will provide. He shared that the cop inside will be safe no matter what, it will stop bullets.

However, the trucks are made of 301 steel, which isn’t normally used for ballistic purposes. Bullets can and have been caught on video shattering the windows and rear panels. The steel body can be damaged by bullets, especially if they strike in close succession.

The Tesla Cybertruck windows are made of regular glass and are not bulletproof. Plus, a .50-caliber bullet can cut through the body. Some of the trucks are bullet-resistant to 9 mm ammo. So, sorry to rain on the parade in Las Vegas! However, at least the department didn’t pay for the trucks itself.
