Police chase ends as stolen Jeep lands in frozen river

Shorewood police officers spotted an SUV driving too fast on Capital Drive and realized a couple was speeding in a stolen Jeep

Then a three-minute pursuit ensued. The police chase carried into Milwaukee, Wisconsin before the Jeep crashed on Vienna Avenue near Humboldt Boulevard.

Although, saying crash puts it lightly. The Jeep flew down into a ravine and landed in the Milwaukee River. Because it’sfrozen, the Jeep handled the impact just fine and didn’t break through the ice.

According to WISN, a male driver jumped out and ran across the ice into the woods. He managed to escape. Police officers arrested the female passenger after removing her from the SUV at gunpoint.

Then a tow truck was called in to recover the Jeep. It was winched over the side of the ravine over the trees, rocks, and retaining walls it missed on the way down.

Witnesses gathered to watch and were surprised that the Jeep didn’t hit any trees or massive rocks on the way down. Plus, the ice someone held up under the force of the large SUV. But the biggest surprise was that no injuries were reported and the driver was able to get away.

The stolen Jeep is linked to a series of retail thefts. The name of the female passenger hasn’t been released as there is an ongoing investigation into the incident.
