Pick the Subaru Legacy Over the Infiniti Q50 as Your Luxury Sedan

A car that’s been deemed as a luxury model doesn’t mean that it’s an impressive one. Take the 2020 Infiniti Q50 for example. It’s a nice enough car but it lacks the “wow” factor needed to stand out in today’s market. If you have the Q50 as a top contender on your luxury car shopping list, you might want to keep looking for more appealing options. In fact, you might be surprised to know that the 2020 Subaru Legacy is a worthy alternative to the Q50.

The Q50 is considered as one of the most notable vehicles under the Nissan umbrella. That is when you compare it to other Nissans. The Q50 offers sporty performance and a spacious cabin. However, when you compare it to class rivals, the Q50 starts to fall flat.

The Q50’s cabin isn’t very upscale, which is disappointing for a luxury model. Its seats are unsupportive and the cabin isn’t as quiet as it should be. Many drivers have also complained that the Q50’s infotainment system is too clumsy. Also, it has a spotty reliability history.

Consumer Reports has given the 2020 Q50 a below-average rating for reliability. The low-reliability ranking stems from the model’s past issues related to its electric system, brakes, and in-car electronics. These issues have also resulted in low owner satisfaction too.

To be fair, the Infiniti Q50 does have some things going for it. This sedan’s main appeal is that it offers V6 engine power for the same price as rivals with four-cylinders. It also comes with a nice advanced safety system. But even so, it’s not the best model for the money.

Subaru’s 2020 Legacy sedan has earned many compliments from Consumer Reports. CR has praised the Legacy for its supple cabin and smooth ride quality. It handles sharp corners and road imperfections quite well, all while remaining rational and responsive. Cabin noise is about average for this vehicle.

The Legacy basically cradles its passengers and there’s plenty of head- and legroom. You should know though that the Legacy isn’t a super sporty ride. Standard Legacy models come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes a 182-horsepower. This engine is okay but it often feels hesitant. Fortunately, there is an available turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that generates a 260 hp. The turbocharged option is available on the Limited  XT trim and we’d say it’s worth going up to this trim level for a livelier driving experience.

Another highlight of the Legacy sedan is its suite of advanced safety features. Adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection all come standard. Features such as blind-spot monitoring are available as extras.
