A car passenger allegedly took control of the steering wheel of a 2023 Land Rover and intentionally crashed into a Duson police cruiser on I-10 East. Sergeant Calvin Francis was reportedly injured, and is reported to be in stable condition. The passenger faces charges for attempted first-degree murder.
The Duson Police Department stated that Sgt. Francis was driving to Baton Rouge on I-10 East near mile marker 153 in Port Allen when his police cruiser was hit by another vehicle. This forced his police cruiser into a concrete wall at the base of the Mississippi River bridge.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation. It now appears that the suspect, 42-year-old John Cuevas of Madison, Mississippi, had been arrested earlier, and this incident was likely a deliberate attempt to crash into a police cruiser.
Cuevas was taken into custody after the police determined that the crash was intentional. Following his arrest, three charges have been filed against him, which include attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated criminal damage to property, and aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce.

In another incident involving a Land Rover, MotorBiscuit reported how someone driving the Discovery SUV in Upstate New York managed to drive up a utility pole guy wire and get stuck. The red Land Rover had both its front wheels up in the air, with the driver still trapped inside.
News of the incident spread after the Binghamton Fire Department posted an update on Facebook, revealing how it rescued the person trapped inside and recovered the vehicle. The social media post read:
“Friday night definitely did not go as planned for one driver just off Main Street.
“BFD crews responded to a call on Clarke Street where a vehicle managed to get itself stuck in a pretty unbelievable spot perched right up on a utility pole guy wire.
“Upon arrival, our teams found the driver still inside the vehicle and had to work carefully to safely remove them from the SUV. We coordinated with Binghamton Police to secure the scene while the car was brought back down to the pavement. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
“It is a good reminder that things can go sideways or even upwards in a split second. Please stay safe out there on the roads and look out for one another.”
