The Ram 1500 got a fresh redesign in 2019, making the 2018 model look pretty outdated in comparison. However, even though the 2020 Ram 1500 doesn’t have a fresh look, it has plenty of upgrades to make it worth buying brand new over the 2019 model.

The 2020 Ram 1500 Has Serious Upgrades

The 2019 Ram 1500 still has a starting price of around $33k even though it lacks the 2020 model’s incredible upgrades. Plus, the 2020 Ram 1500 has a starting price of about $31k, making it cheaper despite all of the extra tech and power included.

Also, upon researching used 2019 models, prices haven’t budged much yet. Depending on your area, you may find basic models for around $27k. So, it doesn’t cost much more for the brand new 2020 model. The basic tradesmen two-door cab can be found for around $18k, but you won’t fit your whole family in a three-seater.

2020 Ram 1500 Performance Upgrades

The 2019 Ram 1500 only has two engine options available. The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that provides 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. You can also upgrade to the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine that offers 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. With the HEMI, the 2019 Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 lb.

In 2020 the Ram 1500 gained the 3.0 V6 EcoDiesel engine that pumps out 260 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. This engine has a lighter block, improved cylinder head breathing, and enhancements were made to the turbocharger. However, it has the same 12,750 lb towing capacity.

The 2020 Ram 1500 has a suspension upgrade as well. It has short and long arm suspension in the front and a multi-link suspension in the rear to handle more weight. It also has the airlift suspension that can drop 2.5″ on this highway to improve fuel efficiency while towing.

Also, the ParkView trailer loading assistance feature has been upgraded to automatically auto-level itself to make hitching up easier. The active braking system can now automatically pick up on visual and auditory cues to automatically stop before a collision.

2020 Ram 1500 Interior Upgrades

The 2020 Ram 1500 is safer, smarter, and more comfortable. The driver seat now has lumbar support and is 12-way power-adjustable. The 10″ touch screen infotainment center can connect to both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

The 2019 model can only connect to Apple CarPlay, leaving Android users behind. You will also find four fast-charging USB ports and 115-volt outlets instead of only two USB ports, allowing all of your passengers to charge their favorite devices.

While the 2019 Ram 1500 is an IIHS top safety pick, the 2020 Ram 1500 has a few upgrades to be even safer, including adaptive LED projector headlamps. The lane departure assistance feature also automatically accounts for the entire length of your trailer. The 2020 Ram 1500 also has improved airbags with venting technology to adapt to the size of drivers and passengers.
