Joseph Saucier, a driver in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, received a traffic ticket a few weeks back. He parked on a street close to the courthouse where he was scheduled to appear and didn’t notice parking signs. Saucier said he’s normally keen to notice signs and kiosks to pay, but didn’t see any.

When he returned to his car victorious, he found a $10 parking ticket on his car. He decided to fight the ticket, arguing there weren’t any clear signs.

“No signs of any kind,” he told WBRZ.

Saucier was given a date to appear in City Court on October 10. He learned from his mistakes and kept the parking receipt after finding a spot in a local parking garage. When he walked into the courtroom, he explained his scenario. He told the outlet there was no judge the hear his case, but someone told him his ticket would be dismissed.

“She said it was dismissed and I was free to go,” he explained.

Then he was punished for failing to appear

A month later, Saucier said he was sent a penalty notice for failing to appear. The penalty was a $50 addition to his original parking fine of $10.

“They’re trying to get me accountable for something that I took care of last month,” Saucier said.

Now, he’s going back to court in December to fight the penalty and attempt to prove he was, in fact, in attendance.
