Street takeovers and illegal car rallies continue to be a massive headache for law enforcement and a terrifying hazard for innocent commuters. In a big pushback against this highly dangerous trend, a joint police operation in Maryland just netted multiple arrests, seized illegal firearms, and put a definitive stop to a weekend of automotive chaos.
According to a recent post on Facebook from the Prince George’s County Police Department, the agency teamed up with the Maryland State Police and several regional partners to actively hunt down illegal car rallies from the late hours of February 21 through the early morning of February 22, 2026. The coordinated sting successfully disrupted multiple planned gatherings across the county and its neighboring jurisdictions.
The highlight of the night’s bust involved two men who traveled all the way from Pennsylvania just to join in the mayhem. During the operation, undercover officers spotted an occupant of a vehicle involved actively swapping out their license plates in a blatant attempt to conceal the car’s identity.
Despite the sneaky tactic, police quickly tracked the vehicle down on Allentown Road. As officers closed in, the driver – identified as 23-year-old Blake Miller of East Berlin, PA – slammed on the gas in a desperate bid to escape, hitting a number of civilian vehicles in the process. When the car was finally brought to a stop, both Miller and his 22-year-old passenger, Gus Roth of Hanover, PA, attempted to flee on foot. They didn’t get far before being tackled and cuffed.
A subsequent search of the impounded vehicle revealed a firearm and a stash of ammunition. Miller is currently facing a laundry list of severe traffic offenses, while Roth was slapped with serious firearm-related charges.

A “Loud and Clear” Warning From Authorities
The arrest of the two Pennsylvania men was just a fraction of the weekend’s overall success. Throughout the night, PGPD forces conducted eight targeted traffic stops, issued 15 citations, and impounded two vehicles used in the illegal rallies. Additionally, the Maryland State Police made two separate, unrelated arrests that also involved the recovery of illegal firearms.
PGPD Chief George Nader did not play it cool when addressing the success of the crackdown.
“These arrests reinforce our consistent message that illegal car rallies are extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated,” Nader stated. “My message is loud and clear: do not come into Prince George’s County or any of our neighboring jurisdictions and engage in this dangerous and illegal behavior. These car rallies cause havoc in our streets and take police resources out of our community.”
To keep the pressure on these dangerous organizers, Prince George’s County Crime Solvers is currently offering a cash reward of up to $500 for any anonymous tips that lead to the prevention of future illegal car rallies before they can even get started.
