OnStar locates $98k truck stolen by a 14-year-old

The Lincoln Police Department arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly stealing a $98,000 pickup truck around 7:30 PM.

Police officers responded to the area of Northwest 57th and Vale streets after a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 was stolen from a driveway.

The truck was equipped with OnStar, giving officers an advantage. They were able to quickly locate it nearby around 25th and O streets.

When officers responded, they turned on their inceptors lights and the truck sped off. Then OnStar was able to locate and disable the truck again near 17th and F streets.

According to KLKNTV, the suspect then took off on foot. He was found in a home near 10th and C streets. He was taken to the Youth Services Centers.

Unfortunately he already had several warrants, including suspicion of theft by receiving $5,000 or more and under a motor vehicle to evade arrest.

For a minor to be charged as an adult in Nebraska, they must be at least 14 years old when the crime they are accused of was committed. They must also have committed a traffic infraction or a serious felony offense.

Stealing a car worth $5,000 or more in Nebraska is a Class IIA felony. Evading arrest is also a felony. So, this kid could be facing tons of trouble. It’s unclear what the other warrants are for.

Also, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 that he stole must have been loaded. The truck has an MSRP of $54,800 and the top-spec Denali Ultimate trim starts at $82,500. The AT4X AEV Edition increases the starting price to $88,090.
