However, there is one new sports car that shines when it comes to reliability.

Clearly, Consumer Reports does not take branding a car as reliable lightly. So, you can count on any of its recommendations being a trustworthy ride. However, on its list of the most reliable new cars, the only sports car that makes an appearance is the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Once again proving that whenever a sports car related question comes up, Miata is always the answer!

Fairly recently, CR named an older generation of the Mazda Miata as one of the best affordable sports cars money can buy. In fact, it was the only one to get a perfect score in terms of driving test, reliability, and owner satisfaction. Now, the regards are almost as high for the newest version of this iconic roadster.

Though the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata gets a good rating from CR in terms of road testing, it gets a perfect rating in the other two categories. According to RepairPal, the average annual cost of maintenance for a 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata is just $429, ranking it well below average in subcompact cars. Additionally, the Miata’s severity rating when it comes to repairs is only 10 percent of issues. So, even if a problem comes up, the chances of it being severe are extremely low.

Overall, RepairPal gives it a four out of five star reliability rating, putting it well above average.

Is the Mazda MX-5 reliable?
