North Carolina driver is behind bars after a 1:30 a.m. police chase with speeds up to 120 MPH
There are many reasons a driver could be subjected to a traffic stop. Sometimes, it’s more of a routine thing, and others could be due to an infraction of road rules. Of course, people traveling at high rates of speed is one of the most common reasons a person could be pulled over, as this causes several deadly car wrecks each year. This happened recently in North Carolina.
The person tried to evade a traffic stop after speeding
As mentioned, speeding causes far more deadly car wrecks than it should. According to WRAL News, police officers in North Carolina noticed a vehicle traveling more than 100 miles per hour at 1:30 a.m. on December 6th. Of course, they then tried to make a traffic stop on the speeding vehicle. Sadly, the driver refused to pull over, leading police on a dangerous chase at that late hour.
As the police continued to try to make the traffic stop, the driver increased their speed even more. At times during the chase, they reached 120 miles per hour on the interstate before taking an exit. Eventually, the officers were able to catch up. They then used a pit maneuver and successfully stopped the driver with this method.
Naturally, the driver was arrested after the traffic stop and taken into custody. The person is being charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest and other traffic violations. Due to the high rate of speed, it’s also reasonable to assume they’ll be charged with reckless driving. Luckily, no one was injured in the chase, but a police car was damaged.
