Maintaining road safety is one of the most important parts of being a police officer. This is one of the many reasons they conduct traffic stops. Of course, trying to evade law enforcement as they’re trying to enforce road rules never ends on a positive note. Recently, one North Carolina man tried to avoid a traffic stop, which caused a lot of damage when he crashed into a home.

This driver caused a massive crash while trying to avoid a traffic stop

Speeding is one of the most dangerous offenses a driver can commit. Sadly, this is a contributing factor in many fatal car wrecks each year. According to WRAL, a North Carolina police officer noticed a vehicle speeding through a work zone on October 29th and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Naturally, the police officer pursued the driver.

While running from the traffic stop, the vehicle is said to have reached speeds of 112 miles per hour. At a certain point during the police chase, the driver even turned off his lights so that the officer couldn’t see the vehicle. This plan worked temporarily as the police officer soon lost sight of the driver.

A bit of time passed, and the department received a call concerning a car that had crashed into a home outside of Smithfield, North Carolina. Upon reaching the home, police learned that it was the same driver who had evaded the traffic stop. He had driven through a field, destroyed a pump house, and then crashed into one of the bedrooms in the home. The report also says he went airborne before crashing into the empty home.

First responders found the driver sitting at a picnic table in the yard of the home he crashed into. The house has now been condemned, and the driver was taken for medical attention as he had minor injuries. His charges are pending.
