In the world of large family SUVs, there is a long list to choose from. In fact, the amount of three-row SUVs on the market these days has skyrocketed. Ever since the crossover outdid the minivan, the modern SUV comes to consumers in an overwhelming array of choices. For those that want an option on the larger end with a V8 engine, some may find themselves deciding between the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe and the 2020 Nissan Armada. According to data from J.D. Power, you won’t regret choosing the Armada instead of the Tahoe.

The 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe

J.D. Power says this large family SUV is more popular than others in its class. It’s a compelling choice, and it isn’t difficult to see why so many families choose the Chevy Tahoe. It seats up to eight people and offers two engine options.

The first is a 355 horsepower 5.3-liter V8. Then there’s an upgraded option with a little more power––a 420 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine. There are three trims to choose from, starting with the LS. Then there’s the LT mid-level trim and the range-topping Premier Chevy Tahoe. In addition, Chevy also offers the RST Package if you desire a more customized performance look for your new 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Due to the upcoming 2021 fully redesigned Chevy Tahoe, there are very few changes to the current model year. According to U.S. News and World Report, the 2020 Tahoe has a starting price between $49,000 – $65,700. J.D. Power consumer data placed this large family SUV second overall in terms of quality. But the 2020 Nissan Armada passed it up and took first place.

The 2020 Nissan Armada

The owner data provided by J.D. Power ranks this large family SUV the highest in terms of quality. This 2020 Nissan Armada maintains its rugged roots due to the fact that it’s based on the Nissan Patrol we see outside the U.S. The “verified consumers” who own the three-row Nissan SUV give it high praise, and we think it’s safe to say they don’t regret choosing it over the Chevy Tahoe.

Another full-size SUV with space for as many as eight passengers, the Armada uses a brawny 390 horsepower V8 engine. There are four trim levels, and for the 2020 model year, Nissan added standard heated exterior mirrors. There’s also a 22-inch wheel option available.

According to U.S. News and World Report, the 2020 Armada starts from $47,100 – $63,530. So not only is it a little cheaper but families who own them learn quickly to appreciate this three-row hauler for its high quality. The SV trim starts it off with plenty to offer, but you’ll gain leather seats and other conveniences like a surround-view parking camera and a power liftgate with the SL. The range toppers are the Platinum and Platinum Reserve trim levels that offer more options and luxuries like standard captain chairs in the Platinum Reserve.

Choosing a three-row SUV

With so many choices out there, it gets hard to make a decision. However, if you come across the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe or the 2020 Nissan Armada, we highly recommend testing out the Nissan before going all-in on the Chevy. Apparently a lot of families that went with the Nissan Armada are glad they did.
