The Porsche Macan is a household name in well-heeled households. However, that wasn’t always the case. According to Gear Patrol, Porsche pulled the model’s name from the Malay word for “tiger.” Despite spending nearly eight years with this sporty SUV, we never realized just how well-named it truly was. Porsche’s tiger might be the only sporty SUV that managed to make a proper SUV and a proper sports car all in one. The 2022 Porsche Macan can really do it all.

Is the 2022 Porsche Macan worth buying?

I can’t tell you how to spend your money, but I can tell you that the 2022 Porsche Macan is one hell of an SUV.

The Macan is Porsche’s best-seller by a pretty long shot, selling 20,000 units a year. As Gear Patrol notes, part of its success is undoubtedly the fact that it is the cheapest way to buy a new car with Porsche written on it. The other side of the equation is that it is a kick-ass luxury/sporty SUV that owners love.

What’s new for the 2022 Porsche Macan?

Porsche is barreling toward an all-electric future with the likes of many of its other European brethren. Despite Porsche’s gasoline cars’ date with destiny, the 2022 Porsche Macan got a little refresh.

The refresh pulled the Macan Turbo out of the lineup. Don’t worry; that doesn’t mean the GTS won’t still blow your skirt up. Its 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 434 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. This power goes to all four wheels making this crossover SUV rip like a rocket and corner like a jackrabbit (or tiger).

In Gear Patrol’s review of the Macan GTS, Courtney likens the Porsche SUV’s explosiveness to, well, for lack of a better phrase, a real Porsche. The Macan rips corners with a shocking harness that minimizes body roll, all while blistering roads with all that power. The Macan’s monster dinner-plate brakes are said to crack off speed in massive chunks when needed.

The one downside is that even after the latest refresh, the 2022 Porsche Macan’s interior is still the least updated in the company’s lineup. In a world where creature comforts are not only expected but, for many, required, this feels like an oversight on Porsche’s part. Courtney describes some of the interior updates as feeling like cost-saving measures instead of improvements.

Considering the Macan is a Porsche with Porsche speed and handling but packaged in a body most closely resembling a Honda CR-V, this small SUV is pretty solid package of utility and performance. You probably won’t pack the Macan up for a rough off-road camping trip, but it will meet the daily needs expected from any other crossover.

How much is the 2022 Porsche Macan?

The 2022 Porsche Macan starts at $81,250 for the base model. The Macan GTS creeps up to nearly $100,000. As you might assume, getting Porsche performance and Toyota practicality ain’t cheap.
