It’s No Surprise This is the Most Stolen Large New SUV
Car theft is on the rise, thanks to a variety of reasons. The pandemic, difficulty in getting automotive parts, and the shortage of cars available for purchase is making thieves more active. So what is the large SUV most likely to be stolen right now? It is the 2019 to 2021 Ford Expedition. Here is what makes the Ford Expedition so likely to be stolen and what you can do about it.
The 2019 to 2021 Ford Expedition is the most stolen large SUV
The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) compiles a list of the most-stolen vehicles. The 2019-2021 Ford Expedition is the most stolen large SUV. The expedition has an exposure of 64,829. It also has three claims, a relative claim frequency of 15, and a relative claim severity of 178. The relative overall losses for the 2019 to 2021 Ford Expedition is 27. This puts it above all other large SUVs.
The other most stolen large SUVs between the model years 2019 to 2021 include the Nissan Armada, GMC, Yukon, Chevy, Tahoe, and Dodge Durango. If you are looking for a large SUV that doesn’t have a high risk of being stolen, you might want to skip these vehicles. Or, at least take extra precautions to keep them safe.
The Ford Expedition Max is the most stolen very large SUV
In addition to the Ford Expedition being the most stolen large SUV, the 2019 to 2021 model years Ford Expedition Max are the most stolen very large SUVs. In fact, there are only two very large SUVs on this list, and they are both the Ford Expedition Max, with one being the four-wheel-drive model.
The four-wheel-drive 2019 Expedition Max has 14 claims, 74 relative claim frequency, and a relative claim severity of 174. In addition, the relative overall losses is 128. The regular 2019 to 2021 Ford expedition max has eight claims, a relative claim frequency of 93, and a relative claim severity of 148. In addition, there are 137 relative overall losses. This makes it the most often stolen very large sport utility vehicle. If you own one, you’ll want to make sure that you take precautions to lower your risk of it being stolen.
Vehicles are being stolen at extremely high rates
The pandemic created a lot of issues, and one of them is an increase in car theft rates. The Senior Vice President of the HLDI, Matt Moore, said that, “Car theft spiked during the pandemic…These numbers tell us that some vehicles may be targeted because they’re fast or worth a lot of money and others because they’re easy to steal.”
If you are in the market for a new, large, or very large sport, utility vehicle, the risk of it being stolen, may not be at the top of your mind. Yet with car theft rates rising, it’s not a bad idea to be aware of the vehicles that are most often stolen. If you do decide to buy the Ford expedition or another, often stolen SUV, you may want to take extra precautions to keep your new vehicle safe.
