There’s No Reason to Buy a 2022 Nissan Rogue Over the Pathfinder and Murano

Nissan offers an impressive lineup of SUVs for the 2022 model year. There’s something for everyone, from the compact Rogue to the stylish Murano to the rugged Pathfinder. Each model offers its own attributes, but the automaker’s larger SUVs truly stand out, offering better overall value than the smaller Nissan Rogue.

Looking at the three 2022 Nissan SUVs side-by-side, we can’t find any reason beyond price to choose the low-end Rogue. The larger family-friendly models offer better performance, nicer interiors, and much more space.

Nissan’s SUV lineup

Selecting the model that meets all of your needs can be overwhelming. Each SUV offers unique features and performance capabilities. But how you intend to use the vehicle is as important as the level of comfort you want.

If you’re looking for size, the Pathfinder is Nissan’s largest SUV. This full-size crossover measures a full 14 inches longer than the compact Rogue. The Pathfinder also measures 5.5 inches wider and 3.5 inches taller than its little sibling.

The Nissan Rogue is the smallest of Nissan’s 2022 SUVs. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine puts out a lackluster 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. But the luxurious Murano makes an impressive 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque with a powerful V6 engine.

The 2022 Nissan Murano midsize crossover is the most stylish of the three SUVs, offering middle-of-the-road capabilities and performance. The two-row SUV has only a 1,500-pound towing capacity, limiting its ability to pull a trailer or boat. By comparison, the 2022 Pathfinder is the only model in the lineup capable of towing up to 6,000 pounds.

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder has an edgier exterior design. It also offers powerful performance with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission. The only Nissan SUV with three rows, the Pathfinder provides plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Plus, an improved all-wheel-drive system makes navigating in inclement weather easier. And its off-road drive modes entice you to go off the beaten path.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a worthy contender in the compact SUV segment. Despite being a 2021 MotorTrend SUV of the Year finalist and one of the nation’s best-selling SUVs, its sales waned in 2020.

Meanwhile, according to U.S. News, sales figures for the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Chevy Equinox were on the rise. The publication reports this can be attributed to “the Rogue’s base MSRP is high for the class, and its lone 181-horsepower engine offers middling performance.” U.S. News even went as far as to suggest 10 alternatives to the 2022 Nissan Rogue.

Completely redesigned for 2021, the Nissan Rogue has kept consumers interested with its comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and good fuel economy. However, that isn’t enough to keep up with the stiff competition in the crowded compact-SUV segment.

The Nissan SUV that offers the best value

Nissan’s larger SUVs offer more space, better performance, and nicer interior features. In fact, the Rogue can’t compete in towing capacity, tech options, and seating space.

MotorTrend recommends the 2022 Nissan Murano over the Rogue, saying it “is positioned as a pseudo-lifestyle crossover with a focus on style rather than maximized utility.” MT’s reviewer also prefers the larger 2022 Nissan Pathfinder for its “towing, people-hauling, and moderate off-road capability.”

In the end, if you have your heart set on a new Nissan SUV, the Murano or Pathfinder is the better choice. As of this writing, the automaker hasn’t announced release dates for its 2022 SUV lineup, but it’s expected to debut this summer or early fall.
