Nissan might kill off another affordable sedan after 2026
Ford, Subaru, Chevy, and now Nissan are slowly but surely pushing the sedan segment closer to the edge. As the demand and preference for SUVs and trucks surpass sedans and coupes, more and more automakers are choosing profits over variety.
Nissan, not long after they announced the Mirage’s discontinuation – also known as the cheapest modern car on the market – the company is discussing removing the Altima from its lineup. Which would be a crying shame, since it’s incredibly difficult to find a top-tier sedan starting at $34,470.
The base price of $28,140 is incredibly affordable, especially when you consider how much the sedan has to offer. A long list of safety features, creature comforts, and interior quality are fairly unmatched at that price point unless you look at Kia and Hyundai.
Nissan is flushing another two sedans, too
The Versa is also on the chopping block, as Nissan confirmed the little sedan will be discontinued after this year. Both sedans offer a safe, reliable, comfortable, and quality ride for the price – especially the Versa. It’s one of the few cars with a starting price below $20,000.
When the Versa receives its Viking funeral, there won’t be a single car on the market that can be bought for that low of a price. Especially with the Mirage off of the market.
Also on the axe list is the GT-R. While it wasn’t at all affordable for most buyers, it’ll be sad to see the company’s iconic twin-turbo V6 be killed off to make room for the company’s EVs and crossovers.
Honda’s merger may have saved the company
Recently, it was announced that Honda and Nissan planned to merge to share the splendors of either company’s resources, production capabilities, and EV or hybrid development. Perhaps the extra funds could have kept the Altima and Versa above water.
However, it looks like Nissan may be backing out of the merger – which could spell trouble for Nissan as it struggles to stay afloat.
