New York dealerships busted for overcharging customers

Eight Nissan dealerships in New York are on the hook for $3.2 million for allegedly cheating customers. According to Natlaw Review, the businesses overcharged over 1,700 drivers who wanted to purchase their leased SUVs, cars, and trucks at the end of their term.

An investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James found that the dealerships added junk fees and falsified the price of leased vehicles that customers wanted to buy.

They allegedly forced them to pay higher costs. The dealerships added dealership and administrative fees or simply inflated the price on the invoices given to drivers.

Now Attorney General James has stopped deceptive practices at 15 Nissan dealerships. He has recovered over $1 million in penalties and $4.5 million in restitution for over 2,800 New York residents.

The investigation into the dealerships began after customers claimed they were being overcharged and given inaccurate receipts for end-of-lease buyouts

Attorney General James explains that buying a car is a major financial decision. Drivers shouldn’t have to worry about dealerships adding illegal junk fees to increase the price.

He shared that these dealerships mislead customers with bogus fees and added costs. They were cheated out of their hard-earned money. Now they’re being held accountable for violating laws and deceiving customers.
