The latest S550 generation V8 Ford Mustang GTs are fast, mighty muscle cars. However, they’re not for everyone; Ford’s beloved pony car has a steady culture of haters, a crowd-eating stigma, and general ubiquity. Still, you’re not out of luck if you want something other than the V8-powered Mustang. Check out these great used V8 Ford Mustang alternatives, like the Chevrolet Camaro SS or Nissan 370Z.

  • Chevrolet Camaro SS
  • Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack
  • Nissan 370Z
  • Kia Stinger GT2
  • Jaguar XK (X150)

Is Camaro SS faster than Mustang GT?

The Chevy Camaro SS is another V8-powered muscle car and a natural rival for the Ford Mustang. However, the latest SS cars, the 1SS and 2SS, are even quicker than a comparable 2022 Ford Mustang GT. The 2SS can hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds under favorable conditions, putting it on par with Ford’s fastest claimed time for the 2018 Ford Mustang GT Automatic. The Camaro SS is faster than a Mustang GT, depending on which model year and transmission you choose.

Is the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack a good V8 Ford Mustang alternative?

While the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack is bigger, longer, and heavier than the latest V8 Ford Mustangs, it’s a solid alternative. Dodge’s most powerful naturally aspirated coupe produces 485 horsepower compared to the 2022 GT’s 450. Moreover, the R/T Scat Pack packs a bigger trunk and more accommodating back seat. Finally, with a 0 to 60 mph average in the low four-second range, it’s about as swift as an S550 Mustang GT.

Just be ready to keep that Mopar beast fed; the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack’s 6.4L V8 is thirsty.

What’s faster, 370Z or Mustang GT?

The Nissan 370Z is quick but not as fast as a modern S550 Ford Mustang GT. In Car and Driver’s testing, the 2019 370Z hit 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds, as fast as a 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt (S197 generation). However, the Nissan 370Z is still an excellent used V8 Ford Mustang alternative. Better yet, the 2019 model has a fair purchase value of around $30,000 with average mileage.

Is a Stinger faster than a Mustang?

While the Kia Stinger GT2 might not be as fast as an automatic-equipped Ford Mustang GT, it’s still a fast sleeper option. The GT2 packs a 3.3L twin-turbocharged V6 powerplant and optional all-wheel drive (AWD). Moreover, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says that the 365-horsepower 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 has a fair purchase price of around $32,258. That puts the super sedan in a similar range to the 2020 Mustang GT.

Is the Jaguar XK a good V8 Ford Mustang alternative like the Nissan 370Z?

The Jaguar XK is an unlikely yet excellent alternative to the V8 Ford Mustang. Unlike the Nissan 370Z, the X150 generation Jaguar XK packs V8 power and Callum-esque grand tourer styling to rival an Aston Martin. The earlier XKs packed 4.2L V8s, and the post-2010 models had 385-horsepower 5.0L mills. Also, the X150 Jaguar XKs are much more exclusive than the S550 Ford Mustang GTs.

Finally, savvy shoppers can snag a handsome 2011 model for around $20,311. Of course, as with any older luxury car, you’ll have to budget for maintenance.
