‘Nightmarish’ Controls Keep This Luxury 2022 SUV From Being a Consumer Reports Favorite

The 2022 Genesis GV70 SUV is a new offshoot from Hyundai, and it brings some serious luxury to the compact luxury SUV market. It has a sleek exterior, an incredibly nice interior, and a solid powertrain. It’s so great that Consumer Reports says that “Its pampering blend of sport and luxury makes it a delight to drive.” So what’s the problem with this Genesis SUV? Its controls. While that may seem like a minor problem, it’s enough to make those who’ve tested the 2022 GV70 seriously reconsider buying this luxury SUV.

How Much Is a Fully Loaded 2022 Genesis GV80?

Despite how wonderful the Genesis SUV is, there is still one major shortcoming that Consumer Reports just can’t get past: its controls. Consumer Reports says, “If it weren’t for the nightmarish infotainment controls, many on our staff would be thrilled to own one…”

So what’s wrong with the controls? For one thing, the air conditioning controls look an awful lot like the ones most people are used to using for their radio, which requires a learning curve. Yet it’s the infotainment system where things get really wonky. “The GV70’s controls are extremely convoluted. The most egregious offender is the infotainment system’s controller dial, which is finicky and distracting to use while driving.” And dangerously, the reverse gear is too easy to shift into when trying to park. This could lead to devastating consequences.

If you’re considering buying the 2022 Genesis GV70 SUV despite these limitations, it’s important that you test drive it so you know exactly what you’re getting. If the reverse and park shifters present a problem, you may want to skip this particular SUV to avoid a problem later. It’s too bad, because the GV70 is an otherwise fantastic SUV.
