What was a burglar thinking when they decided to steal a police car and road trip 100 miles? Your guess may be as good as anyone’s. Police have yet to release any motive.

The New York State Police say a cruiser was at a repair shop in Oneonta. Some broke into the shop, presumably took the keys, and decided to go for a joy ride.

The suspect made it nearly 100 miles. They must have really put their foot down because the vehicle was found two hours later, in Rensselaer County, early in the morning. 

That wording makes it sound like the police SUV was just pulled over by the roadside. Additionally, police found a person inside and took them into custody. Were they napping? Again, it’s not totally clear.

What is clear—according to the Times Union—is that all NYS cruisers have had GPS trackers since 2009. So as fast as the suspect drove, they were never making a clean getaway.
